Dettifoss guesthouse is located in Öxarfjörður, this is a beautiful area to explore and experience natural landscapes. The building itself is surrounded by trees which makes it a quiet place and very rich in bird life mostly in summertime. During autumn or wintertime and if the weather allows, it's also a good place to observe northern lights, because there isn't much light pollution around. So this is the perfect place for people looking to take some time in tranquility and awe of nature.
It's very important to have in mind that the population in this area is very low and most of the people are farmers. So, the offer of services, such as shops, restaurants and commerce in general is very limited (See map ↓ ). I recommend you buy groceries before arrival (Akureyri, Húsavík, Egilsstaðir).
In this area you will find two gas stations with small shops where you can find only essentials, and one restaurant nearby within driving distance. So, probably the best thing to do is come prepared.
